Don’t miss Earthquake, a major new exhibit and planetarium show, opening May 26, 2012. Take a kinetic journey toward understanding these super seismic phenomena and how they fit into the larger story of our ever-changing Earth. Our planetarium show, Evidence of a Restless Planet, will launch you on a breathtaking tour through space and time. Fly over the San Andreas fault before diving into the planet’s interior, travel back in time to witness both the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the break-up of Pangaea 200 million years ago, and much more.

The Academy's inaugural show in the Morrison Planetarium is Fragile Planet. This 30-minute round trip to the outer reaches of the universe reveals how special Earth really is.
Visitors begin their voyage at the Academy, lift off through the atmosphere to gain an astronaut’s view of Earth, then travel to the Moon, Mars, and beyond to search for habitats that might host extraterrestrial life. World-renowned artist Maya Lin discusses the evolution of her final memorial project, What is Missing?, which debuted at the California Academy of Sciences on September 17.
The memorial is dedicated to raising awareness about the crisis surrounding biodiversity and habitat loss. This permanent sculpture at the Academy is the international debut of a multi-sited multimedia work that will exist both physically and virtually.
The work, along with Lin's other sculpture at the California Academy of Sciences, Where the Land Meets the Sea, was commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission and reflects the Academy's drive to explore, explain and protect the natural world.
